We are excited to announce the this year Quilt Dakota Mystery- Phantasmagoria! This amazing quilt and pattern was designed and written by Mariah Knight of Knight of the Prairie!
This mystery is suitable for a confident beginner looking to try new techniques in a supportive, educational environment. Participating shops will have kits in different fabrics and colorways. Kits will include all the fabric for the top and binding, just not the pattern–that is the mystery!
The sew along starts on September 23, 2026. Welcome emails will start on September 9th. Clues will be emailed weekly. We also have optional text messaging notifications to ensure that you don’t miss a clue! Prefer to print the pattern? It is thoughtfully divided into 8 clues printintg on one or two pages each.
Quilt will finish at 74" x 86"
What does Phantasmagoria mean? Phantasmagoria orginally referred to a 19th-century theatrical spectacle utilizing "magic lanterns" in darkened rooms to project eerie, moving, and rapidly resizing images of ghosts and skeletons to frighten and mesmerize audiences.
Today Phantasmagoria refers to a wild, dreamlike sequence of real or imagined images that blend, rapidly shift, or follow one another in a surreal and continuous stream.

Meet Knight On the Prairie!
Mariah is an avid quilter and fabric collector. She started quilting eleven years ago and has been designing quilts for herself almost as long. In 2023, she started writing patterns for other people to make.
She loves most types of quilting techniques and methods and is willing to try a new skill at least once. Traditional quilt block designs are some of her favorites and she likes to use those as inspiration for her patterns.
Mariah lives in southeast South Dakota with her husband and six children. Her full-time job is being a stay-at-home-mom and her part-time job is longarm quilting at her local quilt shop. In her "free time", she takes care of over 40 houseplants, fixes jigsaw puzzles, and bakes yummy things with help from her daughters.
